The bridge in the town of Cuya, in the Casacoima municipality of Delta Amacuro state, will be rehabilitated after it collapsed due to the rains, said the governor of the entity, Loa Tamaronis.

He specified that the new infrastructure will have alternative materials due to the amount of water that flows down from the streams, especially from the Rio de Piedra, which makes it more vulnerable.

The bridge connects with the rural community Cuya, and as a result, the inhabitants of the area and more than 300 agricultural producers were left incommunicado, with serious problems moving their crops to markets in the state of Bolívar.

This is the second time that this structure has failed because it is located in a stretch of drainage and, understanding that the relief of this area is elevated and with ravines, the buildings tend to weaken. According to the official balance sheet, there was no human damage or devastated houses.

The Casacoima municipality has two risk fronts during the winter. One part is fluvial and the other is terrestrial.

The fluvial part receives the annual flooding of the Orinoco River, affecting fields and the farmyard animals of several families. However, so far the level of the river had not exceeded these localities, although they fear that it will happen this year. Some 10 communities are on alert.

The terrestrial part has another reality, such as the case of Cuya, where the waters of the Rio de Piedra collapsed a bridge because they were close to ravines and higher reliefs, with lower risks of flooding due to the flooding of the Orinoco River, as is the case on the banks.
