Earthquake of magnitude 6.3 reported in the Peruvian region of Arequipa

The Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP) reported that this Sunday, June 16, an earthquake of magnitude 6.3 was recorded, with an epicenter in the sea, Caravelí province, in Arequipa, at a depth of 25 kilometers, at 09:47 local time.
In a press release, published on the Peruvian Civil Defense website, he points out that the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) explained that its epicenter was located in the sea and that it continuously monitors vulnerable areas.
It specifies that the COEN coordinated with local and regional police authorities, who reported that the seismic movement was perceived strong in several districts of the provinces of Arequipa, Camaná, Caravelí, Condesuyos and Islay and was perceived moderate in the provinces of Castilla, Caylloma and La Unión.
Faced with this situation, units belonging to first response institutions, together with local authorities, began monitoring possible damage to vulnerable areas in the above-mentioned regions.
The Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation (DHN) reported that this seismic movement does not generate tsunamis on the Peruvian coast.
The personnel of the Provincial Municipality of Caravelí have been carrying out monitoring for damage verification. However, they have not reported material damage or victims due to this earthquake.
