This Sunday, February 02, the
exhibition “Zobeyda Jiménez Doll Festival 2025” opened, in honor of the burriquitas dancer, writer and cultor Elpidio Boullón, in room 1
of the National Art Gallery (GAN), which has more than 60
handmade pieces in traditional wristwear.
According to information from the Ministry
for Culture, during the inauguration, the Doll Festival was held, which
allowed us to remember the journey of two Venezuelan cultivators, Elpidio and Zobeyda, and to
enjoy a parade of the Burriquitas Schools of San Casimiro,
Aragua state, of the artistic talent of Professor Reinaldo Carmendia, who gave a
monologue on the life and achievements of the renowned cultor Elpidio Boullón and the music of the teacher Jesús Sevillano, with the
song “La Cabra Mocha”, chanted
by the audience.
In this regard, the Deputy Minister of
Arts, Image and Space, Mary Pemjean, expressed her gratitude for
being present at this celebration that unites cultors, burriquitas and creators.
“Thanks to the families of teacher
Elpidio Boullón who have been with us in this well-deserved tribute at the Dolls
Festival, thank you all. Today we are inaugurating a
significant exhibition for everyone, especially for that wristband that, on a day like today,
celebrates one more year since its birth,” he said.
For her part, the president of the
Red Art Foundation, Aracelis García Reyes, stated that the exhibition in honor of
Zobeyda and Elpidio is deserved, since “they were illustrious in
revolutionary culture, leaving a great legacy in their territories and must continue teaching and learning from our cultural manifestations.
Honor and
glory to them.”
In addition, he noted that February 2 was declared the “National Day of Dolls and Rag Dolls in Venezuela, an event that we are celebrating in all 24 states of the country with exhibitions, workshops, talks and doll baptisms (...) Revolution is being made with dolls and also by dancing donkeys”.
