The Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil Pinto, submitted to the United Nations (UN) the proposal to establish an International Day against Unilateral Coercive Measures (MCU).

During the Debate on Item 30 of the Agenda of the 79th Regular Session of the General Assembly, on behalf of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations, he explained that the approval of this date “would provide an opportunity to advance the global campaign for the total elimination of so-called sanctions”, in addition to “raising awareness of the negative repercussions that MCUs have in all spheres of life”.

The head of Diplomatic Relations of Venezuela urged member States of the international community to “refrain from recognizing, applying, providing aid or assistance or carrying out any other act that could facilitate the enactment or application of unilateral coercive measures,” and demanded that they cease immediately.

Finally, on behalf of the group, he reiterated his “support and solidarity with all countries and peoples affected around the world by this cruel and inhuman phenomenon”, for whom he demanded reparations for all “damages, injuries and losses suffered and inflicted”, in addition to the establishment of appropriate guarantees and guarantees of non-repetition.
