The ruling of the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) on TikTok is historic and protects the integrity of children and young people, highlighted the sector's vice-president for Science, Education and Health, Gabriela Jiménez.

“This is a historic fact in the protection of children and young people, from the point of view of psychoemotional and educational development, against the elements of the culture of violence on social networks and technological hegemonies,” he said on his Telegram channel.

He added, as reported by the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN), that it is an advance for greater responsibility on the part of digital platforms in the promotion of safe and positive content.

In addition, he indicated that with this decision, “Venezuela opens the door for a necessary dialogue on the responsibility of platforms in curating content and the well-being of those who will build our future.”

The Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court imposed a fine of 10 million dollars on TikTok for its negligence in the dissemination of so-called viral challenges, for which three minors died in schools in the country in recent months.

In this regard, Jiménez recalled that research shows that social networks negatively affect the lives of their users, with an emphasis on mental health, so he called for vigilance over health and well-being.
