This Tuesday, after the death of Pope Francis, the General Congregation of Cardinals decided at its first meeting to suspend all scheduled beatification celebrations until the election of a new pontiff.

“The College of Cardinals, at the General Congregation held today, has decided to suspend the planned beatification celebrations until the decision of the new Roman Pontiff,” the Holy See's press team said in a statement.

This decision is in addition to the one already announced by the Vatican this Monday to postpone the canonization of the young Italian Carlo Acutis, which was due to be held this coming Sunday, April 27.

In total, 60 cardinals participated this Tuesday in the first cardinal congregation, to begin the meetings of the cardinals.

They were summoned to Rome to participate in this body responsible for preparing the pope's funeral process, which today also announced that his funeral will be this coming Saturday, April 26.
