Venezuelan Ronald Acuña Jr. added a new award to his great career in
both Major League Baseball (MLB), after winning the National League Comeback of the
Year award, after recovering from an injury that condemned him
to miss practically the entire 2024 season.
The winners,
one for each league (Jacob deGrom for the American League) are determined by a
vote of the 30 journalists who write for MLB.
Acuña hit for .290/.417/,518 in 95
games with 21 home runs, 42 RBIs and 72 scored and started the All-Star Game for the fourth time in his career.
The player from La
Sabana became the fifth Atlanta Braves player to win
that distinction.
Among the
215 players with at least 400 plate appearances this season, only
five had a higher OPS than the .935 left by the Venezuelan.
Acuña,
who suffered a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his
left knee at the end of May 2024, spent almost twelve months in rehabilitation
before making his expected debut at the start of the 2025 season.
