In an interview with the Spanish journalist Ignacio Ramonet, the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, specified that the ideas and proposals of 25 years ago were fully and fully implemented.

Speaking about democracy in the country, he said that “the balance we have now that the Constitution turned 25, on December 15, is very auspicious, very positive, because despite so many conspiracies, so many attempts at coups d'etat, the coup d'etat that we were able to reverse in April 2002, of the economic war in different phases, of psychological and cognitive warfare, of political, national and international war, we have been able to see the greening of the main proposal of the Constituent Assembly in 1999, the construction of a participatory and leading democracy”.

He stressed that in the country we have had “a total of 31 elections, periodic, permanent elections, at impeccable times, presidential elections, when it has corresponded despite all the wars, blockades, there have never been excuses to postpone any presidential election, elections for governorates and legislative councils, which is state power, elections for mayors and municipal councils, municipal power. We have had 7 referendums, including the Guiana Essequiba referendum, to resolve key, fundamental issues.”

In this regard, he recalled that “Commander Chávez began in 2006-2007 the construction of a direct popular democracy (...) We have taken up with great force the idea of direct democracy, of neighborhood and community democracy. In this case, the construction of what our people say of a new communal State, of a new modern State (...) This year, the year 2024, we made three direct consultations with the communities. In addition, at the end of the year, on December 15, we did a very beautiful experiment, because the National Assembly approved the Organic Law of Communal Justice of Peace, and in Venezuela, with direct popular vote, 15,000 judges and justices of the peace from the territory, from the neighbors, 15,000 principals and 15,000 alternates were elected.”

So we have had a wonderful time to see that it is possible to build another way of doing politics, that it is possible, necessary and urgent for humanity, to consider new models.

The first national president explained “I am forming a special team of, we could say, experts, advisors, advisors, I have my eye set on the forms of consultation with popular power that so much of us apply permanently”.
