Heads of State speak out about Pope Francis' sad physical departure

After the physical departure of Jorge Mario Bergoglio, Pope Francis, this Monday, April 21, at the age of 88 at his residence in the Casa Santa Marta in the Vatican, different authorities spoke out to express their deep condolences in the face of the regrettable news.

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, said: "On behalf of the Bolivarian Government and People, we regret with deep regret the death of His Holiness Pope Francis, pastor of the world, brother of the South and strong defender of justice, peace and the humblest.”

For his part, the president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Cane wrote it in his X account: “We deeply regret the death of the unforgettable Pope Francis. The expressions of affection and cordial closeness that he transmitted to our compatriots were always reciprocated by Cubans.

Likewise, the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum wrote on her networks: "Pope Francis dies. A humanist who opted for the poor, peace and equality. It leaves a great legacy of true love for others. For Catholics and those who are not, it's a great loss. To have known him was a great honor and privilege. Rest in peace.”

The Government of the Russian Federation issued a statement stating that President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences for the death of the Pope.

Pope Francis enjoyed great international prestige as a faithful servant of Christian teaching, a wise religious and state leader, and a coherent defender of the high values of humanism and justice. Throughout all the years of his pontificate, he actively contributed to the development of dialogue between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church, as well as to constructive cooperation between Russia and the Holy See,” the Russian president said, according to the statement.

The president of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Luis Arce wrote in his X account: “We express our deepest regret at the death of Pope Francis, a spiritual leader who dedicated his life to the promotion of peace, social justice and compassion. His voice resounded like a beacon of hope for millions around the world, and his example of humility and service inspires us to work for a more just, equitable and inclusive future for all.”

“Rest in peace, Pope Francis. You stood up and spoke tirelessly for the poor, the persecuted, the victims of war, the refugees, the migrants,” said Filippo Grandi, the head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
