Through his Telegram channel, the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, lamented the physical departure of the writer and poet, Juan Calzadilla, who left Sunday night for eternity.

“Honor and glory to Juan Calzadilla, great and unique,” he said and pointed out that the Venezuelan poet was an enemy of mass funerals, which is why out of respect for his will, the family decided to dismiss him in an intimate ceremony.

He also noted that “soon we will be paying homage to his life and work in the temple he directed for years: the National Art Gallery”.

The teacher Juan Calzadilla was born in Altagracia de Orituco, in 1931. He studied letters and philosophy at the Pedagogical Institute and at the Central University of Venezuela.

He started out in journalism and art criticism in 1955, and during 1959 he went to work at the Museum of Fine Arts as a guide and as director of the magazine Visual.

He also participated in the main avant-garde movements in his country and promoted the development of urban poetry and metapoetic reflection; in these directions, his poems dictated by the pack (1962) and Watchman's Tactics (1982) are important.
