On April 18, 1955, a conference was held in the city of Bandung, Indonesia, where 29 countries participated in favor of an independent policy with the objective of preserving peace, that is, the first bases of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (MNOAL) were created.
The MNOAL was born at the 1961 Belgrade Conference promoted by India, Yugoslavia, Egypt, Indonesia, Ghana, and with the participation of 25 Latin American countries, where only Cuba participated as a member and three observers, who established new conditions for those who wanted to join the movement.
Currently, the Non-Aligned Movement is comprised of 120 member countries, 17 observer countries and 10 observer organizations that aim to speak out on behalf of the interests and priorities of developing nations.
In September 2016, Venezuela assumed the pro tempore presidency of this Movement, three years of working together with the objective of confronting coercive measures by the empire. During his administration, our country also participated in more than 200 multilateral working meetings, in which topics of collective interest were discussed, such as: nuclear disarmament; coercive and unilateral measures; human rights; sustainable development and the culture of peace.
The MNOAL is the second largest body in the world, after the United Nations (UN).
