The Secretary of the Council for Sovereignty and Peace and president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, denounced the serious crimes that are being committed against International Law, against the right to peace, sovereignty and independence of the Peoples of Latin America.
This was stated at the closing of the Meeting of Jurists in Defense of International Law, led by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro.
He stressed that during the two days in which they have been meeting with representatives of International Law, they reached 10 conclusions for the defense of the Nation.
In this regard, he specified, first of all, to categorically condemn any form of interference, coercion, unilateral coercive measures or aggression that violates the sovereignty and self-determination of Peoples.
Second, to demand unrestricted respect for International Law, bilateral and multilateral treaties, and the United Nations Charters as the only way for the peaceful resolution of disputes.
Third, to call on the community of jurists in our countries and all those who make up the United Nations to monitor and report to the appropriate bodies violations of international law that endanger the stability of the Caribbean and the world.
Fourthly, to express due concern and rejection in the face of the recent extrajudicial executions outside all areas of rights that have occurred in the Caribbean Sea by the unilateral action of the Armed Forces of the United States of America, which are, in every sense and in all their parts, violating Human Rights and International Law.
Fifth, to urge the United States government to cease its military operations in the Caribbean Sea and threats against the Latin American region.
Regarding the sixth proposal, he indicated that it is to form a broad league of jurists in defense of international law, with the purpose of evaluating the means necessary to formally file a complaint before competent international bodies because of the threat of the United States of America in the Caribbean.
In addition, Rodríguez, in seventh position, mentioned the strong reactivation of regional multilateralism due to serious threats in the Caribbean on the part of the United States, as well as the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), to comply with the January 2014 proclamation, declaring the region a zone of peace.
Eighth, to urge the governments of the world to take a clear and condemnatory position in the face of the violation of international law and the escalation of violence in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the region.
As a ninth point, he said that it is a matter of organizing awareness-raising activities and public debates on the serious threats that loom in the Caribbean.
It was also agreed to ratify before the world that lasting peace can only be built on foundations of social justice, equity and full respect for human rights and international law.
Rodríguez stated that “these 10 proposals described in the final document encompass sieve and force, which have been designed and developed for security and peace in the Caribbean.”
