The head of state of Bolivia, Luis Arce, expressed his disagreement with the international ties of the president-elect, Rodrigo Paz, of the Christian Democratic Party (PDC) on Friday.
In an interview with Sputnik, Arce highlighted that Peace's approach to the United States and Israel contradicts the foreign policy of the current Government, which suspended relations with Tel Aviv due to its actions in Palestine.
During the conversation, Arce warned that the approach to Washington could facilitate the return of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to the country, causing reactions in the coca cultivation sector in El Chapare. The outgoing head of state considered that this measure would jeopardize the sovereign decisions taken in previous terms of office.
The president also mentioned the existence of external interests in strategic resources such as lithium, rare earths and minerals, key elements in the global economic dispute. According to Arce, these raw materials could be subject to international pressure in the new political scenario.
In the general elections of August 17, the Movement for Socialism (MAS) obtained 3.17% of the votes, lagging behind due to an internal division into four currents. Rodrigo Paz was elected president with 54.96% of the votes, surpassing Jorge Quiroga, who obtained 45.04%, according to data from the Supreme Electoral Tribunal.
