Magnitude 6.2 earthquake is recorded in western Cuba

The Center for Seismological Research (CENAIS) in Cuba recorded a perceptible earthquake this Monday, June 8 at 14:00 local time. The movement occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers and had a magnitude of 6.2, according to the source.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located 142 kilometers northwest of Minas de Matahambre, in the province of Pinar del Rio, which is located at the western end of the greater Antilles, under the geographical coordinates of 23,660 degrees latitude and -84,620 degrees longitude, details the Prensa Latina portal.

According to reports, the movement of earth was seen throughout the west of the country. After the event was reported, local and regional authorities immediately proceeded to monitor the scenario and evaluate the possible occurrence of aftershocks. So far, there have been no human casualties or serious material damage.

The event was also perceptible in Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. Local media reported that there were reports of perceptibility by numerous inhabitants of different areas of Mérida, such as El Roble, Díaz Ordaz, Francisco de Montejo, Fidel Velázquez and Jardines de Mérida, as well as the port of Progreso.
