The Venezuelan People's Power Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Juan Carlos Loyo, assured that despite threats from the United States in the Caribbean Sea, Venezuelan fishermen have not stopped fishing, they are still working.

During his participation in the program Sin Truco Ni Maña, run by the representative Tania Díaz, Loyo said that the fishermen, faced with the threat of the United States, came out to establish a position in defense of the sovereignty of Venezuela.

He stressed that Venezuela has the most important Caribbean coastline with a total of 4200 km, and the Caribbean Sea is among the 10 most important seas in the world, in terms of wealth, biodiversity and marine ecosystems.

In this regard, he asserted that artisanal fishing represents 40% of the total of what is produced in the world and is the one that employs more than 90 million people in Venezuela.

For her part, Reimiris Marval, spokesperson for the Fishing and Aquaculture Sector for Anzoátegui, said that the fishing sector has not ceased its work in the Caribbean Sea and is also now organized in the Bolivarian Fishing Militia.

“Today, more than ever, fishing people are proud, because they are being protagonists and valued, and they are an example of strength,” Marval said.

He also argued that the Venezuelan fisherman wants peace, but he is preparing for a possible scenario. “He wants peace but we are not afraid and we are ready for defense.”
