The Minister of Hydrocarbons, Delcy Rodríguez, during her speech at the 9th International Seminar of the Organization of Petroleum Producing Countries (OPEC), highlighted the need for an energy trilemma to guarantee future energy supply, as well as supply and accessibility.
In that sense, he explained that we cannot talk about accessibility “if we cannot guarantee that the peoples of the planet and of the global south have access to energy and that it is secure access to energy.”
He also indicated that an “investment must be made to guarantee and mitigate the crisis and the climate emergency (...) We already know today, for example, that the 2.2 million dollars of investment in renewable energy does not guarantee that carbon emissions will be zero by 2050.”
Finally, he indicated that there must be a “responsible balance, be away from unrealistic positions. We are putting security and the energy climate at risk.”
