More than 470 books nominated for the Rómulo Gallegos International Novel Prize

Through his account on the social network Instagram, the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, reported that the books nominated for the XXI Rómulo Gallegos International Novel Prize amounted to 474, which represents a record in the history of this prestigious call organized by the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies Rómulo Gallegos (CELARG).
He also explained that the authors come from 32 countries, where the participation of Spain stands out with 141 works (30% of the applications), Argentina with 87 (18%) and Venezuela with 69 (15%).
As for publishers, he noted that 307 are related to the proposed works. In addition, he recalled that the jury is made up of Perla Suez (Argentina), Rafael Cuevas Molina (Guatemala), Abel Prieto (Cuba), Fermín Goñi (Spain) and Juan Antonio Calzadilla Arreaza (Venezuela) and they will give their verdict on July 18.
The purpose of the Rómulo Gallegos International Novel Prize, awarded for the first time in 1967, is to perpetuate and honor the work of the eminent Venezuelan novelist. This prestigious award stimulates creative activity in the field of narrative in Spanish.
The works must be original and unpublished in Spanish, and have been published in print or digital format during the established period.
