The sectoral vice-president of Defense and Sovereignty, Vladimir Padrino López, announced the start of the Caribbean Sovereign 200 campaign maneuver in the La Orchila Archipelago. The action will last for three days starting this Wednesday, September 17.
In statements offered to the country, he explained that this is an instruction issued by the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, regarding “the threats of the last few days.”
“La Orchila is a space that has always been used for aeronaval exercises of all kinds and this time we are going to carry out a fairly comprehensive exercise involving the Caribbean Task Force and joint task groups: aerospace, special forces, intelligence and electronic warfare, maritime, and finally, terrestrial warfare,” he explained.
In this regard, he added that all components of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) will take part in the action by land, sea and air.
He explained that the joint aerospace task group will deploy air defense with armed, surveillance, submarine and aerial drones to monitor the sector and evaluate their offensive capabilities. Buk anti-aircraft systems and ZU artillery systems will be deployed.
“The exercise will be a test for obtaining information, air, maritime and terrestrial infiltration, as well as the recognition of underwater spaces (...) the group will have the task of collecting, analyzing and sharing military intelligence information in addition to implementing electronic warfare actions, such as intercepting calls, blocking and neutralizing communications and various electronic systems,” he stressed.
“We are increasing our operational sizing for the Caribbean, so that our fishermen have confidence and faith, so that all our gas and oil operations can take place,” he said.
