The Ministry of Science and Technology (Mincyt) and the Ministry for Productive Agriculture and Lands held, in the state of Barinas, a day for the delivery of biotechnological corn seeds for planting more than 2,000 hectares by individual producers and organized communes.

The activity was attended by the Deputy Minister for the Communalization of Science for Production of the MINCYT, Danmarys Hernández, who stressed that this action is part of the Scientific-Peasant Alliance, which guarantees the access of the producing people to improved seeds, developed using national biotechnology and peasant knowledge.

“These are improved seeds, adapted to our conditions and developed with our own technologies, at the service of a sovereign and sustainable agricultural model,” said Deputy Minister Hernández.

According to a MINCYT press release, of these 2,000 hectares, 1,368 correspond to 763 individual producers and 632 hectares correspond to 23 organized communes in the region. The delivery of seeds will benefit 11 municipalities in the state of Barinas, as part of planning aimed at strengthening territorial production and the National Sowing Plan 2025, which has a goal of 40,000 hectares for this winter cycle.

The vice-minister also pointed out that some of the beneficiary producers will not only allocate their crops for consumption, but will also be integrated into the centers of seed-growers, a strategy that strengthens the Network of Networks of the Scientific-Peasant Alliance, aimed at the protection, improvement and multiplication of original and adapted seeds, from an agroecological, participatory and inclusive approach.

This day represents a concrete step forward in the construction of a just, sustainable and profoundly sovereign agri-food system, aligned with the strategic objectives of the Homeland Plan.
