In the spaces of the
National Art Gallery (GAN), the book The Infinite Conversation,
by renowned writer and journalist Ignacio Ramonet, was presented as part of the XVI Caracas Book Fair
.
The event was accompanied by the Minister
for Communication and Information, Freddy Ñáñez, who offered a profound
reflection on the work, stressing that it is a compilation of
interviews constructed and narrated from a perspective that allows access to the
thinking and sensitivity of figures who have outlined theoretical and human horizons for humanity.
Ñáñez stressed that The Infinite Conversation
addresses multiple issues, anxieties and crises of the 20th century that,
predictably, are still valid in the 21st century.
He also emphasized that this work leaves
open the possibility of imagining an ethical world where the word of the poet,
the playwright and the aesthetic word can be combined with the political, in order to
project a more conscious and sensitive future.
For his part, Ignacio Ramonet shared
details about the process of creating the book, which brings together interviews
conducted over decades with influential figures of the 20th century.
He explained that for its elaboration
it was necessary to thoroughly study the historical events addressed, to
understand what they represented in their context and to rescue their relevance for the present.
At the same time, he pointed out that many of these
events and protagonists have been relegated to collective memory, so it became essential to apply critical thinking
that would allow the
reader not only to remember them, but also to interpret them from a current perspective.
In this regard, he emphasized that the book
includes conversations with personalities such as Commander Hugo Chávez, Fidel
Castro and Gabriel García Márquez.
With this work, Ramonet offers the reader an invaluable
testimony of the critical and creative thinking of the last century,
projected towards the challenges of the present and the future.
