The Venezuelan pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, Keider Montero, was called from Triple-A Toledo to open this Wednesday in the third and final of the series against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field.
The manager of Detroit, Andrew Jay Hinch, the main reason for inserting the Venezuelan into the rotation is to give an extra day of rest to the entire starting corps, all due to the 23 games that the team will play in 24 days.
Montero, 24, made his debut at the end of May last year, but starting in September he offered his best performance, leaving a 3.77 ERA in 28.2 innings pitched over six appearances (four as a starter). His average number of clean runs in 2024 was 4.76, with a record of 6-6, 77 guillotines and 23 walks in 19 appearances (16 starts) in 98 acts and a third of work.
In addition, he threw the first shutout of his career on September 10 against the Rockies (9 IP, 3 H, 5 K) and made his postseason debut combining for three blank episodes of one hit and three strikeouts in the series against the Cleveland Guardians. “We've told Montero to focus completely on helping us win on Wednesday and then we'll make decisions day by day,” Hinch shouted.
