In the eight months since 2024, doctors at the Instituto Autonomo Hospital Universitario de Los Andes (IAHULA) in Mérida have performed more than 6,000 medium and highly complex surgeries, said the director of the health center, Nellys Molina.

“We have performed more than 6,000 elective, emergency and planned surgeries,” the doctor said in statements given to the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN).

It is important to note that this number of surgeries represents more than 65% of the total number of operations added at the end of 2023 (9,100 operations) and is equivalent to more than 82% of the total number of surgeries performed in 2022 (7,300 operations).

Molina highlighted that the surgical areas of the healthcare center are being kept in full capacity, in permanent work to settle the surgical debt, a task that they plan and coordinate with regional and national government entities, such as the Ministry of People's Power for Health.

“Last week, working together, the IAHULA and the Niño Simón Regional Foundation carried out a surgical day to care for 100 children, through the Pediatric Surgery Service,” said Molina.
