The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, announced the definitive withdrawal of the Spanish ambassador in Buenos Aires.

“The situation has not changed, so I announce that we are retiring our Ambassador in Buenos Aires, she will definitely stay in Madrid,” said Albares.

This decision was taken in the absence of an apology from the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, as had been demanded, after calling Begoña Gómez, the wife of the Spanish president Pedro Sánchez, “corrupt”.

Regarding a possible trip from Milei to Spain, the Chancellor indicated that “we will analyze in detail what type of visit Javier Milei wants to make to Spain”.

In that sense, he argued that “collaboration is always more powerful than confrontation,” he said.

On the other hand, he recalled that during Milei's first trip to Spain, despite not having requested meetings with King Felipe VI or Sánchez, as all Ibero-American leaders usually do when they visit Madrid, he “put in place all the necessary means to welcome him with the hospitality and dignity that the position he represents deserves.”
