Venezuela opened its participation in the Boxing World Cup in China with three round classifications and two advances per bye, while the women's and men's teams completed their first day at the Guiyang Olympic Sports Center.
The Olympic in Paris 2024 Omaylin Alcalá began his route at 57 kilos with a direct pass to the quarterfinals and will face local Ziyi Chen on June 19, at a crossing that will define access to the semifinals. Alcalá seeks to expand its international record after its podiums in England 2025 and Brazil 2026.
Irismar Cardozo, Olympic representative in Tokyo 2020, also made his debut, who beat Thai Chuthamat Raksat 3-2 in 51 kilos and advanced to the round of 16, where he will face Kazakh Alua Balkibekova to ensure presence in the next phase.
In the 75 kilos, Maryelis Yriza won a bye pass that placed her directly in the quarterfinals and will face Canada's Tammara Thibeault in search of a place in the semifinals.
The men's team opened with the victory of Wilson Solórzano, who imposed technical superiority against Hong Kong's Ka Chun Lok in the 60 kilos and advanced to the round of 16, where he will cross with Uzbek Abdumalik Khalokov on Wednesday.
In the 80 kilos, Diego Pereyra received a bye pass in the round of 32 and will play his first fight against Canadian Josh Ofori in the round of 16, also scheduled for Wednesday.
