The Venezuelan ambassador to the Russian Federation, Jesús Salazar, participated in the solemn ceremony and photographic exhibition, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Eurasian nation, on the occasion of the anniversary of diplomatic relations with several Latin American countries.
During the opening of the exhibition, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov celebrated the milestones in Russian diplomatic relations in Latin America, mentioning, among them, 80 years of formal ties with Venezuela.
He highlighted the importance of the civilizational identity and sovereignty of Latin American peoples, as well as Russia's commitment to the development of a more just multipolar world order.
“Today, our country constantly advocates raising the role of States and integration associations in Latin America in the fairest multipolar world order that is being formed,” said the Minister, also highlighting the enormous potential that develops on a pragmatic, deideologized and mutually beneficial basis between Russia and the Latin American region.
“We are willing to work together to expand our relations in the political, commercial, investment, scientific, technological, cultural, humanitarian, educational, sports fields,” said the head of Russian diplomacy, noting that the most important element of success in relations between his country and Latin America are “the deep-rooted traditions of friendship, trust and mutual sympathy that unite our peoples.”
The exhibition, presented in the Smolenskaya Square of the Russian Chancellery, included documents and photographs that narrate significant moments in the history of relations between Russia and Latin America, highlighting the role of the countries of the latter region in the fight against Nazism during the Second World War.
Lavrov thanked Latin American States for their solidarity and support on multilateral platforms, stressing the importance of preserving historical memory and the truth about these events.
During the tour of the exhibition of photos dedicated to each of the countries, the Foreign Minister shared his impressions with Ambassador Salazar in front of the Venezuelan stand, where the figures of the orchid and the turpial were highlighted as national symbols of flora and fauna.
Both Russia and Venezuela share a common vision of the importance of a more just and equitable world order, based on the principles of the United Nations Charter. In recent years, the two countries have increased their trade and investment exchanges, despite international sanctions, highlighting collaboration in strategic sectors such as energy and finance.
