Venezuela celebrates appointment of first president of Suriname Jennifer Geerlings-Simons

The Government of Venezuela, headed by President Nicolás Maduro, congratulated the People of Suriname on Tuesday for the official appointment of the country's new president, Jennifer Geerlings-Simons.

In a statement, the Bolivarian Government celebrated “this historic milestone that enshrines her as the first woman to assume the presidency of her country and we reaffirm our firm will to deepen bilateral relations with the sister Republic of Suriname”.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its sincerest congratulations to the People and Government of the Republic of Suriname on the occasion of the official appointment of Mrs. Jennifer Geerlings-Simons as President of the Republic, reflecting the sovereign will of the Surinamese people.

President Nicolás Maduro Moros, on behalf of the Venezuelan People and Government, conveys his best wishes for success to President-elect Geerlings-Simons at the head of this high responsibility, about which he wishes her wisdom and strength to lead the people of Suriname.

From Venezuela, we celebrate this historic milestone that enshrines her as the first woman to assume the presidency of her country and we reaffirm our firm will to deepen bilateral relations with the sister Republic of Suriname, under the protection of the historic ties of solidarity and cooperation that unite our nations.

We are confident that this new phase of government, under the leadership of President Simons, will open up renewed opportunities to advance Latin American and Caribbean unity, mutual respect and the shared well-being of our peoples.
