“The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela deeply regrets the death of Abelardo Moreno Fernández, a prominent Cuban diplomat and undisputed leader in peace diplomacy for just causes,” said the Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, on behalf of the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.

“He was a recognized figure for his ability to establish constructive dialogues and forge strategic alliances,” Gil said, adding that the diplomat firmly defended the self-determination of peoples and Latin American unity.

“On behalf of President Nicolás Maduro, Venezuela deeply regrets the death of Abelardo Moreno Fernández, a prominent Cuban diplomat and undisputed leader in peace diplomacy for just causes, a key figure in Cuban diplomacy, recognized for his ability to establish constructive dialogues and forge strategic alliances. He tirelessly advocated solidarity, multilaterality, Latin American unity and the self-determination of peoples, passionately defending Cuba's social and economic achievements and denouncing the criminal U.S. blockade,” emphasized the head of Venezuelan diplomacy.

He was one of the main drivers of the Non-Aligned Movement (MNOAL) and CELAC, turning both organizations into fundamental mechanisms in the struggle of the peoples of the Global South.

“His departure leaves a gap in Cuban diplomacy and among those who fight for a more just world. Rest in peace. “, said the chancellor.
