Cornered in the Casacoima Lagoon, on July 4, 1817, the Liberator Simon Bolivar, together with a small group of officers, decided to dive into the muddy waters of the lagoon as a way of salvation. Right there, cornered in the mud, El Libertador falls ill and begins to speculate during the outbreak of the fever: “In a few days we will surrender Angostura, and then... we will go to liberate New Granada, and throwing out the enemies of the rest of Venezuela, we will constitute Colombia. We will then fly the tricolor pavilion over the Chimborazo, and we will complete our work of liberating South America and ensuring its independence, carrying our victorious banners to Peru: Peru will be free”

The group of soldiers who accompanied him shuddered to think that Bolivar had lost his mind and began to murmur “dressed only in a robe, dreaming of Peru”. The truth is that shortly after Casacoima, Simon Bolivar, whom they called crazy, took Angostura, was named Liberator of New Granada, won the Battle of Carabobo, in 1822, as he had lucubrated that July 4, 1817, he freed Quito and in 1824 gave independence to Peru.
