On June 28, 1997, Cuban scientists found the remains of Commander Ernesto Che Guevara and his comrades-in-arms in the Bolivian guerrillas.

Since the assassination of Che in 1967, the Cuban government has done tireless work to recover the body of the revolutionary, but it was in 1995 that it was allowed to do the work on Bolivian terrain where geologists, forensic anthropologists, biologists, geophysicists, with the support of foreign specialists.

Part of Che's olive green jacket and pieces of the leather belt he was wearing the day he was killed were found. The discovery and transfer to Cuba of the remains of the guerrilla leader and his companions was interpreted on the island as a symbolic victory for them over their executioners, and a milestone that highlighted the scientific capacity of this Antillean nation and the commitment of its specialists to the country, reported Prensa Latina.
