A large fire occurred this Saturday in the Port of Manta, in the Ecuadorian province of Manabí, after several explosions that occurred at noon that destroyed at least eight boats and left two people injured, according to preliminary reports from the National Secretariat for Risk Management.
In addition, the National Secretariat reported that the Port Authority coordinates emergency response efforts together with tugs and Fire Department personnel, with the objective of controlling flames and preventing their spread, reports a note from RT.
In addition, he specified that local agencies carry out the assessment of the damage caused by the accident and determine the needs derived from the contingency, while maintaining permanent monitoring of the situation.
For his part, the head of the Manta Fire Department, Julio Roca, pointed out that there are preliminary versions that point to welding work on one of the boats before the start of the fire.
However, he clarified that the causes of the act must be confirmed by the competent authorities once the investigations are concluded.
