Health authorities in the Gaza Strip called on the international community to take urgent measures to ensure access to basic supplies, such as fuel for generators in hospitals in the region.
The Ministry of Health of the Palestinian enclave denounced the serious fuel supply crisis affecting the operation of hospitals in the Gaza Strip, and jeopardizing medical care for the population.
He noted that the Al Shifa hospital has recently received a limited amount of fuel, which will only guarantee its operation for three days.
Health authorities have warned that emergency measures and temporary solutions are not enough to maintain hospital services, especially in the face of the growing demand for intensive care.
“The fuel shortage crisis, necessary for the operation of generators, continues to deteriorate to dangerous levels in hospitals that are still operating in the Gaza Strip,” he warned.
This scenario worsened after the resumption of attacks by the Israeli Army in mid-March, despite the fact that a ceasefire had been reached days earlier. In addition, Israel interrupted the power supply to the desalination plant and blocked the access of trucks carrying humanitarian aid to the enclave.
