Government of Spain confirms political asylum for Edmundo González Urrutia

Through press release number 048 published on its website, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of the Government of Spain reported that the fugitive from Venezuelan justice, Edmundo González Urrutia, received political asylum and took off from Caracas in the direction of that country in a Spanish Air Force plane.

He also stressed that the Government of Spain provided the necessary diplomatic and material means for their transfer, at the request of the former presidential candidate. Also in the letter, he reiterated “his commitment to the political rights and physical integrity of all Venezuelans, especially political leaders.”

Edmundo González Urrutia, is facing an arrest warrant for the crimes of usurpation of functions, forging public documents, incitement to disobey laws, conspiracy, sabotage against system damage and association (to commit crimes).
