Venezuelan judoka Mayerlyn Barreto credited Venezuela with the first bronze medal at the Tokyo 2025 Deaf-Olympic Games, after beating the Ukrainian Sofiia Volianiuk via Ippon in the -57 kilogram category.
Mirandina faced Kazakhstan's representative Dina Adambayeva in her first fight, beating her by Ippon in just four seconds. He then fell in the second match to Joana Santos from Portugal by golden score, and he had to compete for third place bronze against Ukraine's Volianiuk.
In that third fight, Barreto recovered and after one minute and 22 seconds of the fight, he took the victory and the medal by applying an osae kumi waza restraint technique, in which he kept Volinaniuk immobilized for 30 seconds to dominate her by Ippon.
