The Mexican authorities affirm that they will exhaust all legal and diplomatic avenues to defend the rights of the 42 compatriots arrested in the recent raids against migrants in the North American city of Los Angeles, in the state of California,

The information was confirmed by the foreign minister, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, at the Government's daily press conference. In this service, he explained that the arrests were made in several workplaces and were carried out by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as well as the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) office.

“We need to keep talking to them, to ICE, to CBP, to all the agencies that are in charge of this and other issues,” said the one from la Fuente, adding that “the instruction (of the Executive) has also been very clear. As much dialogue as necessary, cooperation with pleasure, coordination of course, but not subordination.”

He also noted that the Mexicans arrested had 37 men and five women, of whom four had already been deported, two by prior orders and two on a voluntary basis.

In addition, the Mexican foreign minister added that most of the compatriots arrested in the raids worked in the Ambiance textile factory and had been in the North American nation for years, in addition to highlighting the hardworking and honest profile of the migrant community.

“Almost 95 percent of the 4.9 million compatriots (Mexicans) who don't have documents right now have been working there for more than five years,” he added
