The President of Panama, José Raúl Mulino, announced the resumption of consular ties with Venezuela, interrupted in July 2024, after political differences.

According to a report from the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN), during his weekly press conference, Mulino confirmed that he had authorized the measure weeks ago, while explaining that the absence of consular representation created difficulties, especially affecting trade in the Colon Free Zone and the operation of Copa Airlines.

The president clarified that, for the time being, there are no efforts to restore diplomatic ties.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were suspended on July 31, 2024, after Mulino expressed his disagreement with the electoral results in Venezuela and supported opposition sectors.
