This Thursday, the first president of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, presided over the events for the 79th anniversary of the Victory Day over Nazi Germany in the Second World War; it concluded with the traditional military parade in Moscow's Red Square.
President Putin, during his speech, said that “we will not allow anyone to threaten us. Our strategic forces are always on alert”; likewise, he declared that “revanchism” is part of the “politics of Western elites” who are encouraging “new regional conflicts”.
However, he stressed that Russia will do everything possible to avoid “a global collision”, adding that “we reject the claims of exclusivity of any State or alliance. We know where the exorbitance of such ambitions leads.”
“The West would like to forget the lessons of World War II, but we remember that the fate of humanity was decided in the great battles of Moscow and Leningrad, Rzhev, Stalingrad, Kursk and Kharkov, in Minsk, Smolensk and Kiev, in heavy and bloody battles from Murmansk to the Caucasus and Crimea.”
