Some 65 workers and eight boats have been deployed, starting this Tuesday, February 4, in the lower basin of the Neverí River, to remove bora (Eichhornia crassipes) and reeds (juncus) from the channel of the main source of fresh water in the metropolitan area of the state of Anzoátegui.

During the day, more than 14 kilometers will be covered, from the La Victoria bridge to its mouth to the sea, in the Fernández Padilla sector, said José Tornell, spokesman for the fishermen's council.

From the Iron Bridge, located in the extension of Costanera Avenue in Barcelona, the sanitation plan promoted by the Barcelona Mayor's Office was launched, which seeks to clear the tributary of aquatic plants and other plant elements, which affect their hydraulic behavior at the mouth.

Tornell reported that the estimated time for cleaning the water mirror is about three months, cleaning that is carried out in coordination with the municipal construction corporation.

He highlighted the importance of this cleaning before the rainy season, which will reduce sedimentation levels and avoid flooding in some sectors due to overflow, as well as allowing them to navigate the river without problem.

Cleaning in the water is complemented by weeding on the banks of the Barcelona river, whose lower basin forms part of the Simon Bolivar Metropolitan Recreation Park.
