The second phase of the
Venezuelan Theater Festival (FTV) began last Thursday, November 13, at the Teatro Bolívar
in Caracas, with a ceremony that coincided with National Theater Day and
celebrated the validity of the performing arts in the country.
The day brought together cultural authorities,
artists and theatrical groups. During the event, the official message of National Theater
Day, written by the playwright Rodolfo Porras and
played by the actor Luis Enrique Torres, was read in homage to the historical contribution of Venezuelan stage creators.
The Order of Liberators
and Liberators of Venezuela (post-mortem) was also awarded to playwright and director Guillermo
Díaz Yuma, in recognition of his outstanding career.
The Minister of Popular Power for
Culture, Ernesto Villegas, described the meeting as “a formidable space for Venezuelan theater” that opens
the door to the country's cultural diversity.
“This Festival demonstrates that conjunction,
that diversity, a powerful Venezuelan heart. An inert nation has no
theater, a living nation overflows theater, overflows art, and here we are
witnessing the pulse of that Venezuelan nation, which at this time of
tremendous challenges has a heart, body, muscle and soul,” he said.
For his part, the director of the
National Theater Company, Carlos Arroyo, highlighted the diverse nature of the festival,
which this year expands to more than 20 theaters in Caracas and brings together more than 60 theater
groups, with a total of 131 free performances. At the same time, Guayana Esequiba's participation as part of the program
stood out, a
fact described as historic for the meeting.
Additionally, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Karen Millán, highlighted the presence of the Festival in communities of the country, with the incorporation of 500 communes, the development of 2000 training processes and 2000 artistic exhibitions in the national territory.
The Venezuelan Theater Festival will run until Sunday, November 23, with theater and street plays, children's plays, talks, workshops, conferences and book baptisms. The full schedule is available on the Instagram accounts: @minculturave, @festivalteatro_ve and @cnteatro_ve.
