Three new records were set as part of the first day of the national under-20 evaluation that took place on June 5 in track and field tests at the Brígida Iriarte Stadium in Caracas.

The Carabobeña Yenniver Veroes, ranked fourth in the junior continental hammer throw, set a new under-18 record in the race with 60.89, while the Monaguense discobola Ottaynis Febres set a new under-23 record of 52.65.

In track tests, the Aragüeña sprinter Hilary Rivas updated the date of the 100-meter under-18 record to match the 11.72 mark set by Orangy Jiménez on May 19, 2018.

“In this sport we face obstacles; however, I don't refuse to go after them. It's just at those times when we need to remember that giving up is not an option. I invite you to keep your faith in yourself and keep your focus on your dreams, working on them with patience, determination and resilience,” Rivas said after winning his first national under-20 title.

For his part, Raúl Navarro from Larense won gold in the men's hectometer with a time of 10.83.

Carabobeña Lantriz Pérez confirmed her supremacy in the national fund leading the 1,500 (4:59.78) and 3,000 meters 10:55.31 tests, while Emilmar Rodriguez (Miranda) was crowned in the 10,000 march with 1:05.29.

In pit tests, Yenifer Mendoza (Anzoátegui) won the long jump with a liftoff of 5.47m; and Alex Pereira, from Carabobo, won with a record of 7.18m.

The under-20 evaluation competitions will run until this Saturday, June 7, with the objective of defining the team that will represent the tricolor in the Pan-American Championship of the category in the month of July in Colombia.
