A Venezuelan delegation, led by the Vice President of Science, Technology, Education and Health, Gabriela Jiménez, is participating in the first Space Cooperation Forum between China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (China-CELAC), which is being held in Wuhan, capital of the province of Hubei, in the Asian nation, until April 26.
Through a publication in X, Jiménez highlighted that “the use of outer space is a mandatory agenda for our countries”, stressing that “science is a territory in dispute”.
88 countries will participate in the Forum, with 1,500 professionals from all over the world, together with CELAC, so Jiménez hopes that “the experience of science and technology in aerospace will allow us, from Latin America and the Caribbean, to build a path for the future and well-being that our peoples deserve, integrating space sciences, mathematics, physics and, of course, the exploration of space”.
He recalled that Venezuela launched three satellites into orbit in cooperation with China: Simon Bolivar, Miranda and Sucre, an action that represents a significant milestone in Latin America.
“In Venezuela, we have an example, which is a reference for the region, which are three satellites that we have developed thanks to the Bolivarian Government and which remains a very special agenda for President Nicolás Maduro to also make space, a scientific agenda, an exchange agenda, an agenda for international cooperation,” he said.
He specified that Latin America and the Caribbean, with more than 600 million inhabitants, has “an extraordinary opportunity in youth, in science, in universities in our region”, to advance in this area.
Finally, he indicated that these platforms contribute to progress, “complementarity, an agenda for effective exchange, an agenda for scientific mobility, an agenda for building open science platforms, which allow us to empower our peoples as well.”
