On a day full of emotion and adrenaline, the Venezuelan karatecos won two new gold medals and one bronze in the kumite category, to continue their successes in the Bolivarian Games held in the city of Ayacucho, Peru, until December 8, 2024.

Barbara Pérez became the first to climb to the top of the podium by beating Colombia's Geraldine Peña with a resounding score of 7-3. “It was a meeting with a lot of adrenaline. The truth is she is a competitor who knows each other very well, we have had several confrontations and both she and I have won, but that adrenaline made me focus on the fight in order to win it,” said the athlete.

For his part, Alan Miquelena also made history by defeating Chilean Maximiliano Jara in an exciting fight that was defined just 40 seconds before the end.

According to Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), with a score of 1-0, Miquelena won the second gold medal for Venezuela in this discipline. “When I advanced to the final, I proposed a strategy with my sensei, in which the two of us had to stay in tune. Thank God things were given to us and we were able to keep the fight,” said Miquelena, a debutant in the Bolivarian Games.

In addition to the gold medals, Venezuela also won a bronze medal in women's karate -61 kg, through Karla Cruces Ramírez, who proved her worth by beating Panamanian Amaury Flores 8-0.
